Gatherings,
readings, returnings

Teaching, launch nights and long tables of new poems: the occasions around the work, gathered in one place.

On teaching

In the spirit of place

“It is like what we imagine knowledge to be: dark, salt, clear, moving, utterly free.”

Elizabeth Bishop, At the Fishhouses

In Ros’s words, a workshop “is an invitation to write in the spirit of place, to listen closely, to look carefully, and to let light, sound, texture, and weather shape new poems.” Modelled on the workshops of Sharon Olds, the work is to step “beyond old habits and limitations, to experiment, and to engage in what Olds called pleasurable daring,” writing new poems, reading them aloud, and listening “with the writer of each poem speaking last.”

From Ros’s announcement of the 2026 generative poetry weekend at the Elizabeth Bishop House.
