London

Born in London, Ros’s earliest geography begins in England before widening through study, family life and travel.

Cambridge

At Girton College she read History, training that remains visible in her attentiveness to memory, evidence and lives shaped by their moment.

A year in France

Aix-en-Provence

A family year in southern France began a long imaginative relationship with French landscapes, language and light.

From 1982

Edinburgh

Ros moved to Edinburgh in 1982 and spent twelve years in Scotland, finding a community of poets and continuing to write across forms.

Periods spent in Morocco and Australia broadened a writing life already moving between countries.

1992 onward

Key West

A rented apartment in 1992 marks the memoir’s first firmly dated Key West foothold. The island became home for more than thirty years: a place of friendship, literary community, storms, poems and return.
